Why Change?

Approximately 5 percent – or 3.6 million – American children suffer from high blood pressure. Studies have found that the average blood pressure of American children is on the rise, in parallel with the increase in children’s weight. Pediatric hypertension is closely linked to childhood obesity. Obese children are at approximately a three-fold higher risk for hypertension than non-obese children. Additionally, hypertension during childhood has been shown to be an independent risk factor for hypertension in adulthood, and to be associated with early markers of cardiovascular disease. It’s important to treat this condition in children and adolescents.

OUR HISTORY

DSFIT2RUN is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the five principles of F.R.E.S.H. living– Finance, Relationship, Energy, Spirituality, and Health. DSFIT2UN was founded in 2010 by Deana, a health and fitness advocate. Deana was inspired to raise money for breast cancer after her mother received a positive diagnosis, and Deana wanted to help raise awareness by joining a fund-raising campaign. When she realized it was too late to register for the Breast Cancer Walk , she decided to raise money for another cause—Leukemia. Training for the cause was rewarding, but the fund-raising effort was very stressful. Hence the idea was born to create a nonprofit organization to help people meet their exercise goal without the stress of fund raising.

DSFIT2RUN emphasizes the concept that an individual can train to become fit to run by power walking their way to success with fewer injuries and less stress on the knee joints.
